UPDATE: RUMOUR: iPhone 3G spotted on sale at Low Yat!

Previously we had sources saying that they’ve spotted the coveted iPhone 3G being sold at the retail floors of Low Yat Plaza.

The sources also claimed that the device retailed at highly marked up RM4200 per unit.

We thought that the price was daylight robbery but we didn’t discount the possibility that the rumour could be true.

So we went to check it out for ourselves.

After much searching and asking around for 2 hours there was no iPhone 3G to be found. Most of the sellers we asked said that it’s not available in Malaysia yet. A pretty obvious statement considering no local telco is bringing it in officially!

Though, we are still hoping that Maxis will make an announcement – however unlikely that may seem.

What we did notice is that the selling of the first gen iPhone have dwindled somewhat and we didn’t see them as much as we used to before the launch of the 3G version. Could this be in anticipation of the arrival of the grey imported iPhone 3G? We don’t know but we think you could see the iPhone 3G at Low Yat after PC Fair in August.

But not to worry we have a source who’s within walking distance of Low Yat. If we here anything, we’ll get him to confirm.

And in case you’re wondering, the 16GB version of the first gen iPhone is going for around RM2800 unlocked.

If you have any rumours you’d like to share, please email them over. We’d love to put any juicy snippets about the iPhone 3G here.

Send in your support now. Together, we will make it happen!

Malaysia Boleh!
